Methodology
Volume is calculated from the actual cross-section, length and quantity entered. Weight uses the density you provide; cost uses the selected price basis; the waste allowance is applied only to the ordering estimate.
Timber quantity calculator
Enter one piece or a repeated member set in metric or imperial units. Convert actual dimensions into volume, board feet, estimated weight, price and a waste-adjusted ordering quantity.
Free timber planning tool
Calculate timber volume, estimated weight and cost from dimensions or a known volume. Supports metric, imperial and geometric board feet.
Results update instantly. No account is required, and inputs stay in your browser. Exchange rates and structural sizing are not included.
Enter valid values to see the estimate.
Select Metric and Dimensions. Enter 50 mm thickness, 150 mm width, 3.6 m length and 20 pieces.
| Quantity | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Volume | 0.05 × 0.15 × 3.6 × 20 | 0.540 m³ |
| Weight at 450 kg/m³ | 0.54 × 450 | 243 kg |
| Cost at EUR 600/m³ | 0.54 × 600 | EUR 324.00 |
| Order with 10% overage | 0.54 × 1.10 | 0.594 m³ |
With these inputs, the order allowance gives EUR 356.40 and 267.3 kg.
Density, price and overage are illustrative assumptions. Use actual finished dimensions and a density appropriate to the supplied timber and moisture condition.

Results are planning estimates. Timber density varies with species and moisture, prices are not converted between currencies, and commercial board-foot rules may use nominal rather than actual dimensions.
